China in the sixties was a recovering nation. The Great Leap forward had cost millions of lives and left the nation in shambles; by 1966 the nation were finally returning to a stability it had not seen all century. In another 40 years, China would be considered the fastest growing economy and one of the biggest powers in the world. However, before the Chinese could see this success, they suffered through another period of chaos and instability.
The Cultural Revolution was a mass movement that aimed to destroy the old Chinese society and raise a new generation of Revolutionary minded youths. The Revolution turned into a bloody series of fights among Chinese, which cost many lives and much of China’s history.
